We know your idea of a good time isn’t talking about the 2025 tax season (ick) or keeping track of IRS filing due dates, so we’re motherfugging proud of you for opening this blog post in the first place. 😘
And we pinky promise you that if you’re a small business baddie who wants to stay on top of your tax due dates, this blog post will actually help you.
Grab your calendar bb girl and get ready to mark down the 2025 tax season deadlines that are important as funk for you to remember.
While technically the 2025 tax season doesn’t start until a lil bit later in January, this is the first tax deadline you need to remember because it’s when your quarter 4 tax payment is due.
And no matter what industry you’re in, but especially for our girlies in the wedding industry, we’re sorry. Becauseeee quarter 4 taxes suck a little extra and that’s cuz you have to pay taxes on 4 months of income (September, October, November, and December). And since that tends to be a lot of seasonal business owners’ busiest season… quarter 4 tax estimate usually hurt a little extra.
So be mentally prepared to hand over a little extra cashola for quarter 4 estimated tax payments on January 15ths.
(And if you feel confused as funk about quarterly taxes, this free checklist will help.)
Yep, that’s right, January 27th is when the 2025 tax season officially started this year. (Barf.) And that’s when the IRS started processing 2024 tax returns.
Technically, you can file your 2024 taxes as soon as tax season opens, but we actually don’t recommend it because it’s soops important to make sure you have all your legit tax sh*t first. (AKA 1099s, W2s, etc.). Otherwise, you’ll have to amend your tax return later, and that’s just extra work no one wants.
If you paid a contractor (think: web designer, social media manager, etc.) $600+ via cash, check, wire transfer, or another cash-adjacent method, you had to send them a 1099-NEC by this date. And if you have employees, January 31st was your deadline to send out W-2s.
(If you missed this deadline and are panicking, deep breaths, bb girl. Get it done ASAP to avoid more late fees.)
If your small business is an S-Corp or a partnership, this is your deadline to file Form 1120-S or 1065.
AKA the tax deadline that has small business baddies (and everyone else) feeling like this:
And that’s because April 15th is when business taxes and personal taxes are due. AND. it’s the deadline for quarter 1 estimated tax payments for 2025. AND. It’s the last day for filing for a tax extension, too.
(P.S. If you need more time to get your bookkeeping sh*t together, filing an extension will give you until October 15th to officially file your taxes. BUT. You will still need to pay your estimated 2024 taxes by this date. Rude.)
Unfortunately, quarterly estimate payments are due 4 times a year. Fortunately, this one is isn’t the worst one you’re paying estimated taxes on the income you made for only two months: April and May.
Your deadline for your quarter 3 estimated tax payment rolls around in September and is based on the income you made in June, July, and August. (See, it’s back to three months now?! …so weird.)
This is when taxes are due if you filed an extension for your business (or personal) taxes back in April.
And like we mentioned about above, you should have paid what you thought you owed by April 15th so this tax deadline is for paperwork (and finding out how much more you owe, or if you overpaid in April, how much you’re getting back).
Unlike income tax deadlines, sales tax deadlines depend on the state you live in and are totally different from the tax deadlines above. (Which is annoying as funk and we would change if we could.)
Every state has its own set of rules. Some require sales tax to be filed monthly, while others want it quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.
Check your Secretary of State website to find these dates and create your portal login (Or, ya know, hire a group of dope bookkeepers to track your tax deadlines for you).
And heads up: if you have customers in multiple states, you might have to pay sales tax in more than one place.
For most states, monthly sales tax returns are due on the 20th of the following month. Meaning:
But (because of course there’s a but), some states have different rules, so make sure to double, triple, and quadruple-check for yours.
For most states, quarterly sales tax deadlines will follow this pattern:
